Some conditions may present with gastrointestinal and rheumatological manifestations. Salmonella osteomyelitis results from direct infection of bone following gut infection and bacteraemia, but in other conditions the pathogenesis is less clear. There may be a microbial cause for rheumatoid arthritis; however, this theory remains unproven.
