[The role of ultrasound in the indication for surgery in acute scrotum].

Before the application of ultrasonography in the diagnosis of acute scrotum almost all cases were operated on, many unnecessarily. In the work presented here, we analyze surgical cases before and after the introduction of ultrasonography in our hospital. By the use of ultrasound, in the first year the number of operations and the number of non-justified operations were reduced to about the half and one fifth compared to corresponding data from earlier years.
