This paper examines the process of evaluating the quality of care provision in district nursing at a local level. The definitions of audit and quality assurance are considered, and the current situation in community nursing is briefly compared with that in hospital settings. Finally, the use of evaluative tools in practice is examined, together with ways in which district nursing evaluation can be improved.
