Host-seeking females of the anthropophilic sand fly, Lutzomyia lichyi (Floch & Abonnenc), collected in Valle, Colombia, were invariably parous. All progeny of these insects reared in the laboratory were autogenous for the first ovarian cycle, producing fertile eggs without a blood meal. The importance of autogeny in Leishmania transmission is discussed briefly.
