OBJECTIVE
To determine whether depression is associated with cardiac autonomic alterations in elderly patients with recent acute coronary syndromes (ACSs).
METHODS
Cross-sectional study on the association between a major depressive episode or isolated depressive symptoms (21-item Hamilton depression score) and heart rate variability abnormalities in 56 adults (31 women, 55%) 60 years of age and older with a recent (24-72 h) myocardial infarction (MI) or unstable angina (UA).
RESULTS
Spectral and nonspectral parameters of respiratory sinus arrhythmia, indicative of parasympathetic activity on the heart, were decreased in patients with depression (high-frequency heart rate variability [log ms(2)] 2.12+/-0.4 vs. 2.52+/-0.5, P=.024; pNN50 [%] 1+/-2 vs. 9+/-15, P=.006; and rMSNN [ms] 16+/-6 vs. 28+/-22, P=.009). Also, high-frequency heart rate variability decreased with increasing depressive symptom severity.
CONCLUSION
In a sample of older adults suffering from ACSs, depression was associated with impaired parasympathetic control of the heart.

对56名年龄在60岁及以上、近期（24 - 72小时）发生心肌梗死（MI）或不稳定型心绞痛（UA）的成年人（31名女性，占55%）进行横断面研究，探讨重度抑郁发作或孤立的抑郁症状（汉密尔顿抑郁量表21项评分）与心率变异性异常之间的关联。
结果
抑郁症患者中，反映心脏副交感神经活动的呼吸性窦性心律不齐的频谱和非频谱参数降低（高频心率变异性[log ms(2)] 2.12±0.4对2.52±0.5，P = 0.024；pNN50 [%] 1±2对9±15，P = 0.006；rMSNN [ms] 16±6对28±22，P = 0.009）。此外，高频心率变异性随抑郁症状严重程度的增加而降低。
结论
在患有ACS的老年人群样本中，抑郁症与心脏副交感神经控制受损有关。
