Clinical and electromyographic (EMG) examinations of the Chernobyl wreckers exposed to radiation revealed radiological damage to peripheral nervous system. 10-15 years after the accident they complain of weakness, headache, dizziness, muscle pain. Late damage to the peripheral nervous system manifest with EMG-detected axonal and demyelinating lesions, compression injuries of the peripheral nerves (tunnel syndromes), involvement of spinal cord motor neurons. In wreckers with thyroid lesions tunnel syndromes occur more often.
