meso- and beta-Substituted di(pyridiumyl)porphyrins 3, 4, and 7 have been synthesized and their interactions with DNA have been investigated. meso-Substituted porphyrins showed the stronger effect on DNA than that of beta-substituted porphyrin. Cytotoxicity of compound 3 (IC(50)) to THP-1 tumor cell was up to 0.11 nM.
