Abstract

Hospitals need to strive to reduce admissions and improve quality of care for frail older people. Dedicated units within accident and emergency offer the best hope of reducing demeaning trolley waits. Community-based care and home treatment needs to be better co-ordinated to reduce the burden on hospitals.
