Venous access for chronic hemodialysis: "undesirable yet unavoidable".

Venous angioaccess for hemodialysis is fundamental in order to perform uninterrupted renal replacement therapy. This review focuses on catheter and port devices used for chronic dialysis. Handling, care, and complications are reviewed for both types of venovenous access.
