Gastric and duodenal polypoid lesions are almost always diagnosed incidentally and constitute a clinical problem for treatment and follow-up. The histologic types of polypoid lesions in stomach and duodenum are described, as well as the clinical setting in which they are found. Endoscopy and directed biopsies, but particularly diathermic snare polypectomy, are essential to establish a certain histologic diagnosis. Guidelines are given for treatment and follow-up.
