Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis had a capacity problem, or so we thought. After examining a situation that we considered virtually unfixable, we implemented high-leverage process changes resulting in significant improvements in patient flow. We learned that we did, after all, have the capacity we needed without adding any beds or hiring additional staff.
