Evaluation of the influence of hypercalcemia and primary hyperparathyroidism on the course of pregnancy and recommendations for the best management of this condition.
Case report.
Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Regional Hospital, Pardubice.
The author analyses her experience with the course of pregnancy in a patient with primary hyperparathyroidism diagnosed at the beginning of the third trimester. The patient was successfully operated on, the solitary adenoma of parathyroid gland was removed and she delivered vaginally a healthy foetus in term.
The example draws attention to the hypercalcemia during pregnancy that may cause nausea and vomiting. This condition can be misdiagnosed for hyperemesis gravidarum and underlying disease can be missed.
