Report on family medicine in the Nicaraguan Revolution: advances and obstacles 1985-1991.

Family practice, a well-developed specialty in the United States, is now finding application in Third World settings. The development of family medicine in Nicaragua is described within the historical context of the Nicaraguan Revolution and global developments in primary health care. Difficulties encountered and adaptations necessary for developing countries are discussed within the context of international models of primary health care.
