Abstract
Renewed interest in bioterrorism-related research has resulted in the need for more ABSL3/4 facilities. In some cases, money has been available to build new facilities, but more often institutions are faced with retrofitting existing facilities to meet the higher containment standards. The author discusses several factors that must be addressed before beginning this type of renovation project.
