[Vitamin D therapy in predialysis renal failure].

Vitamin D therapy is indicated in predialysis renal failure patients with secondary hyperparathyroidism caused by vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D therapy brings about suppression of PTH and ameliorates oseitis fibrosa. To prevent aggravation of renal function, starting with small dose (0.25 microg/day) of calcitriol or alfacalcidol and dose adjustment of vitamin D with careful monitoring of serum calcium, phosphorus and PTH are recommended.
