To report a case of permanent endothelial cell injury after intracorneal penetration of milky latex from Calotropis procera (ushaar).
Interventional case report.
A 40-year-old patient developed painless corneal edema despite minimal epithelial injury after exposure to ushaar latex.
Confocal and specular microscopy confirmed permanent endothelial cell loss with morphologic alteration after intracorneal penetration of ushaar latex. Corneal edema resolved completely after 2 weeks, although reduced endothelial cell count and abnormal morphology persisted.
Ushaar latex is capable of penetrating the corneal stroma and inducing permanent loss of endothelial cells. Corneal edema resolves if sufficient endothelial cell viability is still present after resolution of ushaar keratitis.
报告一例因牛角瓜(ushaar)乳白色乳胶角膜内穿透导致永久性内皮细胞损伤的病例。

一名40岁患者在接触ushaar乳胶后,尽管上皮损伤轻微,但仍出现无痛性角膜水肿。
共聚焦显微镜和镜面显微镜检查证实,ushaar乳胶角膜内穿透后出现永久性内皮细胞丢失及形态改变。角膜水肿在2周后完全消退,尽管内皮细胞计数减少和形态异常持续存在。
ushaar乳胶能够穿透角膜基质并导致内皮细胞永久性丢失。如果ushaar角膜炎消退后仍有足够的内皮细胞活力,则角膜水肿会消退。
