Abstract
Topical steroids are among the most frequently prescribed medications in the treatment of skin disease. Hundreds of preparations are currently available in a variety of vehicles and potencies. This article details the mechanism of action, determinants of clinical effectiveness, vehicle and potency selection, special considerations, and side effects of topical steroids.
