[The dimensions, characteristics and functions of the crystalline style of molluscs].

Recent findings concerning the crystalline style dimensions in different species of bivalves under normal or unfavorable life conditions, which lead to partial or total dissolution of the crystalline style, were analyzed. The rate of the crystalline style total dissolution in media with different pH values and under different conditions was assessed. A variety of functions and the main physical and chemical characteristics of the crystalline styles, as well as the role and contents of digestive enzymes in them, are discussed.
