To investigate the role of interleukine-16 (IL-16) in the pathogenesis of endometriosis.
Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to determine the levels of IL-16 in peritoneal fluid and serum specimens of 22 women with different stage endometriosis and 22 controls.
The median levels of IL-16 in peritoneal fluid and serum were 290.5 pg/ml and 539.4 pg/ml in women with endometriosis, and 296.6 pg/ml and 778.1 pg/ml in controls, respectively; there was no significant difference between two groups (P>0.05). However, the IL-16 levels in peritoneal fluid and serum of patients with minimal/mild stage endometriosis and controls were all significantly higher than those of patients with moderate/severe endometriosis (P<0.01, <0.05). In addition, there was no statistical correlation of peritoneal IL-16 levels with those in serum (P>0.05).
Reduced levels of IL-16 in peritoneal fluid and serum of women with advanced stage endometriosis may imply a role of IL-16 in the development and progression of endometriosis.
探讨白细胞介素-16（IL-16）在子宫内膜异位症发病机制中的作用。
采用酶联免疫吸附测定（ELISA）法检测22例不同分期子宫内膜异位症患者及22例对照者腹腔液和血清标本中IL-16的水平。
子宫内膜异位症患者腹腔液和血清中IL-16的中位水平分别为290.5 pg/ml和539.4 pg/ml，对照组分别为296.6 pg/ml和778.1 pg/ml；两组间差异无统计学意义（P>0.05）。然而，轻度/中度子宫内膜异位症患者腹腔液和血清中IL-16水平均显著高于重度/中度子宫内膜异位症患者（P<0.01，<0.05）。此外，腹腔IL-16水平与血清IL-16水平无统计学相关性（P>0.05）。
晚期子宫内膜异位症患者腹腔液和血清中IL-16水平降低可能提示IL-16在子宫内膜异位症的发生发展中起作用。
