Ashihara Kengyo was one of the most famous acupuncturists of the latter part of the Edo period. He wrote the book Shindo Happi on acupuncture theory. He was blind, but he was unrivaled when it came to acupuncture. As a result, he became the medical doctor for the feudal government and treated the shogun Tokugawa Ienari and many daimyos. He was a descendant of Kiso Yoshinaka, who was a famous samurai of the Kamakura era. Thus he re-established the Kiso family name, and always held a service for his ancestors.I investigated the history of Ashihara Kengyo, on the basis of the data I found on "Kisoshi Karoku". As a result, I discovered a wooden statute of him and many related historical spots.
