Evolution of views on surgical treatment of otitis media purulenta chronica for the last decade and outcomes of this surgery in the last 5 years are reviewed. The authors made tympanoplastic operations in 220 patients. Function of the tympanic membrane recovered in 212 cases, a complete closure of the bone-air gap was observed in 89 patients; hearing improvement averaged 25 dB.
