Consider new parameters when caring for an older population. Why? Because clinical practice guidelines often fail to take into account the needs of people with multiple chronic conditions. Further, while some experts make the case that quality in this population can best be defined in individual terms, they suggest that that there are some new benchmarks policy makers should consider when developing quality improvement initiatives.
