The specific activity of Na, K-ATPase, localized in basolateral membranes of enterocytes, does not differ in adult cattle and healthy newborn animals (0.99 +/- 0.04 and 1.06 +/- 0.06 mumol Pi/mg of protein per 1 min), but in diarrheic new born animals--decreased to 0.2 +/- 0.03. The data obtained prove that the transporting ATPases play a fundamental role in disturbance of electrolyte balance under diarrhea.
