AIDS: debate on infection control guidelines shifts to Congress.

When Congress reconvenes this month, it will consider several bills aimed at protecting patients from AIDS. The American Hospital Association is supporting one requiring states to adopt the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control by regulation or legislation. But the Senate has also passed a punitive amendment, which many AIDS experts and providers oppose.
