Abstract

The pioneering work on the Na,K-ATPase was dominated by the concept that this enzyme was essentially the same in all tissues and organisms. Now, with the development of new molecular and immunological techniques, the Na,K-ATPase is found to be composed of several clearly different subunit types. This brief update focuses on the identification of subunits and recent ideas about their functional differences.
