The primary symptom of the vulvar dystrophies (nonneoplastic epithelial disorders of the vulvar skin and mucosa) is vulvar pruritus. The development of malignancy is relatively uncommon (1-5%) over a prolonged period. Medical therapy is effective in alleviating symptoms in most patients.
