Palliative care is the knowledgeable and compassionate care of the dying patient. Although based on an holistic multidisciplinary philosophy, it does not usually include dentistry in its team approach. Many terminally ill patients have oral problems resulting from anti-cancer therapy and/or poor oral care during lengthy illnesses that require therapeutic intervention. By incorporating dentistry into the palliative care team, the dental needs of the dying patient will be managed more effectively.
姑息治疗是对临终患者进行专业且富有同情心的护理。尽管它基于整体多学科理念，但在团队协作方法中通常不包括牙科。许多晚期患者因抗癌治疗和/或长期患病期间口腔护理不佳而出现口腔问题，这些问题需要进行治疗干预。将牙科纳入姑息治疗团队，将能更有效地满足临终患者的口腔需求。
