The level of 17-ketosteroids and 17-ketogenic steroids in the diurnal urine was determined in 70 patients with rectal cancer prior to and after ACTH administration. In most patients the initial excretion of the steroids under study was found to be decreased. 17-ketosteroids excretion is reduced more frequently in patients over 50 years of age and in females. In a predominant number of patients functional reserves of the adrenal cortex are decreased.
