You can institute several process improvements in your ED in a relatively short time by testing several new ideas at once and determining those most likely to be successful. Brainstorm any and all ideas with your staff and then reduce the list to those most likely to be of benefit. Be sure to test ideas in combination as well as separately; sometimes the synergy of two ideas will make both stronger. Assign the charge nurse for each shift with the responsibility of seeing that the new ideas are carried out correctly.
