Does a constriction ring alter ejaculation latency?

OBJECTIVE

To assess the efficacy of a 'constriction ring' as an option for treating premature ejaculation (PE).

PATIENTS AND METHODS

Between September 2003 and October 2006, 42 men with an intravaginal ejaculation latency time (IELT) of <1 min were evaluated. Over a 4-week period, a constriction ring was used during intercourse.

RESULTS

The median (range) IELT was 42 (33-54) s before treatment and 46 (31-55) s after 4 weeks of using the ring; there was no statistically significant difference in the IELT before and after treatment (P = 0.1), and no major complications.

CONCLUSION

The 'constriction ring' is not an effective treatment for PE.
