Suturing is a time-consuming process and patients may suffer from sutures because of discomfort and tearing. This prospective study was done to determine the efficacy of an available commercial fibrin sealant for conjunctival wound closure following extraocular muscle surgery for strabismus.
Fibrin sealant (Beriplast) was used in 48 conjunctival wounds of 25 patients with strabismus during the period February 2004 to May 2005. There were 12 males and 13 females, whose mean age was 9.3 years.
No allergic reactions, chemosis or infections were seen, but suturing was necessary a day after surgery in 3 wounds of 2 cases (3/48 eyes, 6%). All conjunctival wounds were healed at the end of the second week.
The use of Beriplast for conjunctival wound closure is an effective method that is easy to apply and should be considered a solution in strabismus surgical practice.
缝合是一个耗时的过程,患者可能因不适和撕裂而受缝线之苦。本前瞻性研究旨在确定一种市售纤维蛋白封闭剂在斜视眼外肌手术后结膜伤口闭合中的疗效。
2004年2月至2005年5月期间,对25例斜视患者的48个结膜伤口使用了纤维蛋白封闭剂(Beriplast)。其中男性12例,女性13例,平均年龄9.3岁。
未观察到过敏反应、球结膜水肿或感染,但2例患者的3个伤口(3/48眼,6%)在术后一天需要缝合。所有结膜伤口在第二周结束时均愈合。
使用Beriplast闭合结膜伤口是一种易于应用的有效方法,应被视为斜视手术中的一种解决方案。
