Ocular diseases in birds are very rarely investigated. Increased keeping of often very expensive caged birds makes it necessary for veterinarians in practice to deal with the problems of ornithoophthalmology. Fundamental physiological and anatomic differences between the mammalian and the avian eye, interspecies variables and general problems in handling do not allow a simple transfer of knowledge of mammal ophthalmology to birds. Therefore, it is necessary to find differentiated, species-orientated solutions in investigation as well as suitable treatments of ocular diseases in birds. An update on ornithoophthalmology is given.
鸟类眼部疾病很少得到研究。越来越多饲养通常非常昂贵的笼养鸟类的情况，使得执业兽医有必要应对鸟类眼科学的问题。哺乳动物和鸟类眼睛在基本生理和解剖学上的差异、种间变量以及处理中的一般问题，不允许简单地将哺乳动物眼科学知识应用于鸟类。因此，有必要在鸟类眼部疾病的研究以及合适的治疗方法中找到差异化的、以物种为导向的解决方案。本文给出了鸟类眼科学的最新进展。
