A hitherto undescribed form of boron can be prepared by subjecting ordinary forms of boron to pressures exceeding about 100 kilobars and temperatures between about 1500 degrees to 2000 degrees C. The new form has a density of about 2.52 g/cm(3) and yields a characteristic DeBye-Scherrer pattern. No large crystals have been prepared.
