This article spells out what we can and cannot do with video surveillance in the real world. Although current technology cannot duplicate the picture enhancement and narrowed down images of TV programs, today's CCTV systems can do a lot more in parking applications than in the past, the author reports, and not only in improved surveillance. Other capabilities include automation of day-to-day management functions, risk mitigation, statistical gathering, and human resources management.
