Closed suprapubic cystostomy: a cost-effective method for development countries.

Acute retention of urine is a fairly common emergency problem in medical practice. Suprapubic diversion through a closed or open cystostomy is a standard procedure. In developing countries where there is paucity of skilled manpower and adequate facilities, patients' suffering may be unduly prolonged through delay. This simple cost-effective method was carried out in 15 patients without untoward morbidity. The procedure is particularly useful in rural communities where elaborate facilities are non-existent.
