The aim of this retrospective study was to study the clinical presentation, investigations, histopathological findings, and the best ways of treatment of the giant cell tumour of the tendon sheath (GCTTS).
The medical records of all patients diagnosed to have GCTTS during the period 1994-2001 were reviewed, and follow-up was for three to ten years.
The total number of patients was 52, of whom 36 were females, and the mean age was 32.4 years. All the tumours except one were located in the hand and wrist area, with the thumb being the most affected finger. Painless swelling was the most common presentation. All of them were treated surgically and the recurrence rate was 24 percent.
After reviewing the literature and comparing with our results, we conclude that GCTTS is a true benign tumour with local aggressive behaviour in some cases, and the best way of treatment is wide local excision.
本回顾性研究的目的是探讨腱鞘巨细胞瘤（GCTTS）的临床表现、检查、组织病理学发现及最佳治疗方法。
回顾了1994年至2001年期间所有诊断为GCTTS患者的病历，并进行了三至十年的随访。
患者总数为52例，其中女性36例，平均年龄为32.4岁。除1例肿瘤外，所有肿瘤均位于手部和腕部区域，拇指是最常受累的手指。无痛性肿胀是最常见的表现。所有患者均接受了手术治疗，复发率为24%。
在回顾文献并与我们的结果进行比较后，我们得出结论，GCTTS是一种真正的良性肿瘤，但在某些情况下具有局部侵袭性，最佳治疗方法是广泛局部切除。
