Poor work attitudes and disposition affect productivity and health care services adversely.
To evaluate the work attitudes and perceptions of health workers in South Eastern Nigeria in one of the biggest Federal Teaching Hospitals in Nigeria.
Stratified random sampling of 384 middle and senior manpower staff and use of a self-administered questionnaire.
Most respondents agreed that patient care should be a joint effort, as well as to working together with other members of the health care team. Of the respondents, 242 (63%) were dissatisfied with the service delivery.
The results of this study reinforce the importance of research based actions and concepts that would improve health care service delivery. The study has potentially enlightened researchers about attitudinal and perceptual dispositions of black health professionals. There is need for future broadbased, cross cultural and longitudinal work among health workers.
