Abstract

I have developed a 3.5 mm radial transverse incision technique to perform sutureless cataract surgery using phacoemulsification and small incision lenses. The sutureless radial transverse incision was performed on 124 patients. The patient population excluded eyes with previous pathology, more than 2 diopters of corneal astigmatism, and requiring more than 22 diopter lens. Three month follow-up results using the Cravy method for determining astigmatism demonstrated less than 1.5 diopter of astigmatic change, astigmatic stabilization at one week, with no significant change in against-the-rule astigmatism at three months. Visual recovery demonstrated that 84% of patients achieved 20/40 or better at one month postoperatively.
