Managed care has played an important--if subtle--role in the recent financial turnaround of one Houston hospital. The positive results achieved at the 562-bed Hermann Hospital led officials there to believe that basic managed care concepts can be applied to a hospital setting, though not without an organizational overhaul and a careful consideration of internal politics.
