Abstract

There are many contradictions and opposites in health care today, and yet none as topical and controversial as the present situation concerning the quality of life for patients with chronic illnesses and debilitating conditions. On the one hand, there are people queuing up to go to Swiss assisted-suicide clinic, Dignitas, to die. On the other, there are many people with chronic conditions wanting to be resuscitated despite how futile such an exercise may be.
