Abstract
The notion of a "nursing shortage" implies that all nurses are interchangeable and is another indication that nurses are labelled "professional" without enjoying the benefits of that status. Nurses can reassert their professional status by becoming the architects of a radically new health care structure that guarantees health care for all.
