[Peculiarities of diagnosis and surgical treatment of choanal polyps].

This paper summarizes the experience with the surgical treatment of choanal polyps by means of the endoscopic technique. The relevant studies have demonstrated high efficiency of endonasal endoscopic removal of choanal polyps. Morphological examination of the resected tissues revealed metaplastic transformation of respiratory epithelium into many-layer squamous epithelium with concomitant lymphostasis, a rise in the number of goblet cells, local epithalaxia, and stromal sclerosis of the polyps. The importance of complete removal of the affected mucosa is emphasized.
