On call. My wife and I both enjoy the "Harvard Men's Health Watch" newsletter. We've read that erectile dysfunction can be a warning for future heart disease in men. I'm okay in the department, but my wife is experiencing a drop in her sex drive. She'll be seeing her gynecologist for help, but we wonder if she should see a cardiologist, too.

On Call. I am a 67-year-old man, and I'm as healthy as anyone I know of my age. My first wife died four years ago. I remarried last year and have a wonderful relationship with my new wife. We have sexual relations about twice a wee,, and she seems to enjoy it. So do I, but I don't enjoy climax as much as with my first wife. Is it a mental thing, or do I have prostate problems? She's only 58 and she's always been healthy, but over the past year she's been bothered by shaking and trembling in her hands, particularly when she's pouring tea or eating dinner. Her doctor gave her a blood pressure pill, but she's never had high blood pressure. Does she have Parkinson's? Ask the doctor. My wife has had all of the symptoms described in a recent study showing that women have different heart attack warning signs than men. I urged her to get a stress test but she says her doctor told her that the treadmill test isn't good at diagnosing heart trouble in women. Is this the case? Thanks to the treadmill test, I avoided a heart attack. Now I want the same thing for my wife!

On call. As a physician, I find Harvard Men's Health Watch very helpful for my patients and as a 63-year-old man, I find it interesting and helpful for myself. But I'm puzzled by your November 2001 article, which recommends two drinks a day as the safe maximum. I remember reading an editorial in The Lancet a few years ago that recommended up to 25 drinks a week, or three a day. Which dose of alcohol is correct?
