A multiple pass technique for use in laser scattering experiments is accomplished by trapping a pulse in a resonatorlike geometry. The construction, test, and operation of the multipass system are described. The gain is measured by Rayleigh-scattering from a gas filled experimental chamber. Consequences for plasma diagnostics are discussed.
