The aim of this study was to compare changes in soft-palate morphology and nasopharyngeal relations after orthopedic rapid maxillary expansion (RME) and surgically assisted RME (SARME).
A group of 10 patients received RME, a second group of 10 patients received SARME, and a third group of 10 patients served as an untreated control group. Lateral and posteroanterior cephalograms were obtained for each individual at preexpansion/precontrol and postexpansion/postcontrol. In addition to descriptive parameters, the angulation, length, and thickness of the soft palate and superior and inferior pharyngeal spaces and the ratios of the length of the soft palate to the length of the superior and inferior pharyngeal spaces were evaluated. Paired t-tests were performed to analyze changes within groups, and analysis of variance and Duncan tests were used to compare changes among groups.
No statistically significant differences were found in changes in measurements related to soft-palate morphology or nasopharyngeal dimensions among the SARME, RME, and control groups; however, increases in soft-palate angulation and superior and inferior pharyngeal spaces after expansion/control were greater in the SARME group than in other groups.
No statistically significant differences were found between changes in the nasopharyngeal airway after RME and SARME.
本研究的目的是比较正畸快速上颌扩弓(RME)和外科辅助快速上颌扩弓(SARME)后软腭形态和鼻咽关系的变化。
一组10例患者接受RME,另一组10例患者接受SARME,第三组10例患者作为未治疗的对照组。在扩弓前/对照前和扩弓后/对照后为每个个体拍摄侧位和前后位头颅侧位片。除描述性参数外,还评估了软腭以及上、下咽间隙的角度、长度和厚度,以及软腭长度与上、下咽间隙长度的比值。采用配对t检验分析组内变化,采用方差分析和邓肯检验比较组间变化。
在SARME组、RME组和对照组中,与软腭形态或鼻咽尺寸相关的测量变化未发现统计学显著差异;然而,扩弓/对照后,SARME组软腭角度以及上、下咽间隙的增加大于其他组。
RME和SARME后鼻咽气道变化之间未发现统计学显著差异。
