Abstract

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE

It has been proven that Ezrin protein may interact with E-cadherin protein and take part in metastasis of tumor cells. This study was to investigate the expressions of Ezrin and E-cadherin in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) and their relationship with the clinicopathologic factors, and analyze their diagnostic values for ESCC.

METHODS

The expression of Ezrin and E-cadherin in 72 specimen of ESCC and the paracancer normal squamous epithelium was detected using tissue array with SP immunohistochemistry. Their correlations to the clinicopathologic factors were analyzed statistically.

RESULTS

The positive rate of Ezrin was significantly higher in ESCC than in para-cancer normal squamous epithelium (90.7% vs. 46.0%, P < 0.001); the positive rate of E-cadherin was significantly lower in ESCC than in para-cancer normal squamous epithelium (27.6% vs. 97.4%, P < 0.001). Ezrin expression was related to the invasiveness and lymph node metastasis of ESCC (P < 0.05); E-cadherin expression was related to the differentiation and lymph node metastasis of ESCC (P < 0.05). The high expression of Ezrin was related to the low expression of E-cadherin (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSION

The activation of Ezrin and the absence of E-cadherin contribute to the tumorigenesis and metastasis of ESCC.

已证实埃兹蛋白(Ezrin)可与E-钙黏蛋白相互作用并参与肿瘤细胞转移。本研究旨在探讨埃兹蛋白和E-钙黏蛋白在食管鳞状细胞癌(ESCC)中的表达及其与临床病理因素的关系,并分析它们对ESCC的诊断价值。

方法

采用组织芯片和SP免疫组化法检测72例ESCC标本及癌旁正常鳞状上皮中埃兹蛋白和E-钙黏蛋白的表达。对其与临床病理因素的相关性进行统计学分析。

结果

ESCC中埃兹蛋白的阳性率显著高于癌旁正常鳞状上皮(90.7%对46.0%,P<0.001);ESCC中E-钙黏蛋白的阳性率显著低于癌旁正常鳞状上皮(27.6%对97.4%,P<0.001)。埃兹蛋白表达与ESCC的侵袭性和淋巴结转移有关(P<0.05);E-钙黏蛋白表达与ESCC的分化程度和淋巴结转移有关(P<0.05)。埃兹蛋白的高表达与E-钙黏蛋白的低表达有关(P<0.05)。

结论

埃兹蛋白的激活和E-钙黏蛋白的缺失促进了ESCC的发生和转移。
