Homotransplantation of the amniotic membrane for the treatment of congenital absence of the vagina is described. Two years' follow-up with biopsy specimens revealed that amniotic membrane cells divide mitotically and activate vaginal epithelial proliferation of the squamous type and which respond to exogenous estrogens.
