The prevalence of dual diagnosis is high among those who access mental health and addiction services. This one part unit examines definitions of dual diagnosis, prevalence of the condition and why people with mental illness use substances. It also discusses assessment methods, the importance of integrated treatment and specific issues that need to be taken into account in management plans for this group, such as drug interactions and treatment approaches.
