Abstract
The feature in the 15 Jan. 1989 issue of Applied Optics includes papers dealing with the problem of pattern recognition including triple correlation, preprocessing, differentiating spatial light modulators, synthetic discriminant functions, circular harmonics for space-invariant pattern recognition, and adaptive associative memory techniques. The feature issue concludes with a paper comparing conventional digital-optical image processing to artificial neural networks.
