Abstract

OBJECTIVES

This study describes the hearing results of patients whose ossicles were reconstruction using bone cement.

PATIENTS AND METHODS

The medical records of 19 patients (11 males, 8 females; mean age 35,6 years; range 12 to 64 years) who underwent surgery for chronic otitis media at Istanbul Education and Research Hospital Otorhinolaryngology Department between January 2006 and December 2009 were evaluated. Bone cement reconstruction of the ossicular chain was performed from incus to stapes in the absence of a long arm or lenticular process of the incus. The clinical data of the patients were evaluated by otoscopic examination and audiometry.

RESULTS

After incudostapedial rebridging ossiculoplasty we performed; out of 19 patients, 10 had 20 dB gain while two patients had 15-20 dB gain another two patients had 10-15 dB gain. The remaining five patients didn't have any significant gain. The mean pre- and postoperative air-bone gaps of all the patients were 36.5 and 20.4 dB respectively.

CONCLUSION

Incudostapedial rebridging ossiculoplasty with bone cement is a cost-effective and safe procedure that yields good hearing results in selected patients.

目的

本研究描述了使用骨水泥进行听小骨重建的患者的听力结果。

患者与方法

对2006年1月至2009年12月期间在伊斯坦布尔教育与研究医院耳鼻喉科接受慢性中耳炎手术的19例患者(11例男性,8例女性;平均年龄35.6岁;年龄范围12至64岁)的病历进行评估。在砧骨长臂或豆状突缺失的情况下,从砧骨至镫骨进行听骨链的骨水泥重建。通过耳镜检查和听力测定对患者的临床数据进行评估。

结果

在我们进行砧镫关节再架桥听骨成形术后,19例患者中,10例听力增益20 dB,2例患者听力增益15 - 20 dB,另外2例患者听力增益10 - 15 dB。其余5例患者无明显听力增益。所有患者术前和术后的平均气骨导间距分别为36.5 dB和20.4 dB。

结论

采用骨水泥进行砧镫关节再架桥听骨成形术是一种经济有效且安全的手术方法,在部分患者中可取得良好的听力结果。
